More wonderful mountain passes than you can shake a stick at! The Swiss Alps, Italian Dolomites and Austrian Grossglockner, with two three night stays for relaxation and time to explore.
28th August to 10th September 2026
Day 1 201 miles
The tour starts at the Eurotunnel terminal in Folkestone, so it may be worth a hotel nearby (we can help with that) before catching
a fairly early shuttle. We'll get a good way into France, before an overnight near Reims.
Day 2 210 miles
Wending our way across France via N and D roads, we'll thread our way into the Vosges Mountains, following the ridgeline along the famous 'Route Des Cretes before descending to our overnight stop near Mulhouse.
Day 3 203 miles
Finally approaching our first three night stay, we'll use the Swiss motorways (Vignette needed) to move easily into the Alps, with the day culminating in our first taste of the spectacular. The Klausenpass with its deeply incised glacial valley is our gateway into the Andermatt area where we will stay for three nights.
Days 4 and 5 about 100 miles each day
With a relaxed 3 night stay in our mountain hideout, we can now explore the local passes, with the Susten, Tremola, Furka, Grimsel, novena and Oberalpstrasse. A collection of fabulous passes each with their own character. Alternatively, you can choose to have a day off, and take a short ride to explore Andermatt or enjoy the hotel.
Days 6 140 miles
Leaving our Swiss base, we take a relaxed ride along a series of pretty passes and approaching Italy via the very beautiful and peaceful Umbrail pass. Shortly after we connect to the Stelvio pass at the top, we'll stop, have a coffee and take a good look at the 48 hairpins we'll descend down the north side to our hotel on the other side where dinner is included.
Day 7 155 miles
Today we move to the Dolomites. A fairly easy run to Bolzano, after which we'll get our first taste of the Dolomites. Very different from the Swiss Alps, the Dolomites are characterized by jagged, pale-colored limestone peaks, sheer cliffs, and diverse landscapes including Alpine meadows and glacial lakes. They are a UNESCO World Heritage site famous for their unique geological formations. You can acclimatise to the landscape over the pretty passes en route, arriving in Arabba, where our 3 night base is a lovely 4 star hotel with a pool and wellness centre and dinner is included every evening.
Day 8
Day 8 is a day off. Your guides will be relaxing so there is no accompanied ride. Alternatively, there is the town of Canazei, 14 miles to the west over the Pordoi pass if you wanted to explore there.
Day 9 125 miles
A day of passes today, around the Sella mountain range, taking in the Pordoi, Sella, Gardena, Valparola passes, and not forgetting the Fedaia pass (The Italian Job).
Day 10 140 miles
Leaving the Dolomites via the Falzarego pass, we head towards our other bucket list destination, the Grossglockner in Austria. A truly beautiful pass, the toll to cross it is included in the tour and we'll take our time with a stop at Franz-Josefs-Höhe to admire the glacier, walk up to the glass observation point and enjoy the changing exhibitions or have a coffee. For those who enjoy fabulous views and cobbled hairpins, a trip up the Eidelweisspitz is a must, after which we descend to our hotel at the foot of the mountain.
Day 11 245 miles
Leaving the area we travel through more beautiful scenery, where we hop onto the motorway (vignette needed) and ride through the Austrian Tyrol into Germany and our hotel near Lake Constance.
Day 12 169 miles
Breaking the trip home into easy stages, the northern Vosges national park is a pleasure, en route to our next hotel.
Day 13
A longer run, using some motorways to get us to our hotel 2-3 hours from the Eurotunnel terminal in Calais
