Ideal for riders who haven't ridden in Europe before, this is a low mileage tour of some of the sites and memorials of WW1 in Flanders. Based in a beautiful central hotel in Ypres there's plenty of time for relaxation and socialising.
Dates: 21st to 24th August 2025
Inevitably, this tour involves motorways at times, so riders must be on min 300cc bikes and motorway legal.
We'll travel either by ferry or Eurotunnel across the channel, and make our way directly to Ypres. If it's your first time in the EU, we'll show you how to navigate, train, ferry and riding on the right etc.
The walled town Of Ypres is surrounded by the Ypres Salient battlefields, where many cemeteries, memorials and war museums honour the battles that unfolded in this area during World War I. The town was flattened during the war, after which many of the important buildings were carefully reconstructed, including the cathedral, and the Cloth Hall which houses the 'In Flanders Fields' museum (well worth a visit). Our hotel is a lovely family run hotel, with secure parking for the bikes and just round the corner from the Menin Gate.
Our first evening will give you time to orient yourselves and explore the town before the 8pm last post at the Menin Gate.
We then have two days to explore the area, highlights include:
Menin Gate & Last Post Ceremony
In Flanders Field museum
Langemark German Cemetery
Passchendaele memorial Museum
Tyne Cot Cemetery
Hooge Crater Museum & preserved trenches
..and possibly
Lijssenthoek Cemetery
On the final day, we'll take a mid day crossing back to the UK after a leisurely breakfast at the hotel.
