Join us on our tour of the Picos mountains and northern Portugal. Feast your eyes on the spectacular scenery and picturesque villages as you enjoy the thrilling roads of the area. Not to be missed!
Dates:
Day 1
Our adventure starts in Plymouth, where we board the ferry for our overnight cruise across the Bay of Biscay to Santander.
Day 2
Disembarking in Santander in the early afternoon, we take an easy ride to our first hotel in Santillana Del Mar… known as the town of the three lies, as it’s not holy (santi), flat (llana) or by the sea (del mar). A little town, with bright cobbled streets, flower-filled balconies and huddle of tanned stone and brick buildings.
Day 3
Riding westwards, we enter the jagged, deeply fissured Picos De Europa, enjoying the fabulous scenery along its western side as we head towards our next hotel.
Day 4
Using some lovely sweeping roads we cross the border from Spain towards Guimaraes, the old capital of Portugal. Our hotel is on the edge of the old town, with its charismatic buildings and lively atmosphere.
Day 5
From Guimaraes we cross the Douro Valley, with a stop in Viseau on the way to our relaxing stay in the spectacular Estrella mountains.
Days 6 and 7
where we will base ourselves for two days to enjoy ride-outs and relaxation.
Day 8 and 9
Heading back towards Spain, we ride through the Douro valley, one of the oldest wine growing regions in the world. With its beautiful scenery and quiet roads that wind alongside the Douro river it’s a bikers dream in every sense. With stopovers on the bank of the Douro, and in Braganca, we head towards the Spanish border.
Days 10 and 11
Heading north we re enter the Picos De Europa, travelling north along some of the best roads a motorcyclist could dream of. Arriving at our second longer stop in the Picos we have a day to explore and experience the spectacular scenery and possibly the Fuente De cable car (highly recommended).
Day 12
Our final ride to the ferry includes the famous Potes and Panes road – again featured in the best biker routes. Our last night is aboard the ferry heading back to Plymouth.
Day 13
We disembark and say bye bye to new friends and old.
