An Iberian adventure starting with a cruise on Brittany Ferries’ beautiful ship, the Pont Aven
The tour is a relaxed exploration of the Picos and Northern Portugal with moderate daily mileages and two ‘rest’ days where you can join us in a rideout, or explore locally.
3rd to 14th September 2025
Day 1
Our adventure starts in Plymouth, where we board the ferry for our overnight cruise across the Bay of Biscay to Santander.
Day 2 125 miles
Disembarking mid afternoon, we ride south-westwards, entering the jagged, deeply fissured Picos De Europa, to enjoy the fabulous scenery and phenomenal roads along its eastern side as we head towards our first two night stop.
Day 3 TBA
A 'rest / exploration' day with options of a rideout for the day, or a shorter ride followed by a trip up the Fuente De cablecar. Quite an experience!!
Day 4 145 miles
Leaving the Picos behind, we wend our way south-west through the picturesque Spanish countryside towards Ponferrada, a major town on the French Way Catholic pilgrimage route with its impressive castle.
Day 5 150 miles
Heading South again towards the Portuguese border, we enjoy more scenic mountain roads, with a side trip into the Parque natural del Lago de Sanabria, before arriving in our next overnight stop in the picturesque town of Braganca.
Days 6 190 miles
Making our way south and crossing the Douro river, we arrive at our four star base for two days in the Estrella mountains. This is a 'must do' for bikers with stupendous views, good roads (mostly) and plenty of hairpins to enjoy. We are half board here, so breakfast and dinner is covered.
Day 7 TBA
A day off, or 'playtime' in the mountains, visiting the Torre (mountain peak) at 2865m, and enjoying some fabulous twisties
Day 8 100 miles
Heading northwards, we ride towards the Douro valley, one of the oldest wine growing regions in the world. With its beautiful scenery and quiet roads that wind alongside the Douro river it’s a bikers dream in every sense. We stopover on the bank of the Douro, before heading towards the Spanish border.
Day 9 160 miles
Continuing along the Douro, we ride eastwards enjoying the spectacle of the tourist boats heading through the lock (if we're lucky) and soaking up the atmosphere. The Douro forms the border with Spain, where we cross on our way to our penultimate night in the walled city of Zamora.
Day 10 220 miles
Our final day in Spain, and we head for our hotel 45 minutes from Bilbao. We may use motorways for part of this to give us more time to chill, but the latter half of the day runs through more mountainous nation parks.
Day 11 TBA
Our last night is aboard the ferry heading back to Portsmouth
Day 12
We disembark and say bye bye to new friends and old.
